दीमक घर में बहुत चुपके से घुसती है और लंबे समय तक बिना किसी बड़े संकेत के लकड़ी, furniture, doors और walls को अंदर से खाती रहती है। जब तक visible damage नहीं दिखता, तब तक colony काफी फैल चुकी होती है। इसलिए early signs पहचानना बहुत जरूरी है। नीचे 7 सबसे reliable signs दिए गए हैं जिनसे आप आसानी से समझ सकते हैं कि घर में दीमक active है या नहीं।
1. मिट्टी की सुरंगें (Mud Tubes)
ये subterranean termites का सबसे clear और strong sign है। दीमक soil से लकड़ी तक travel करने के लिए पतली, pencil जैसी मिट्टी की tubes बनाती हैं। ये tubes walls, foundation, corners, pipes के आसपास या furniture के पीछे दिखती हैं। रंग भूरा या ग्रे होता है और surface rough लगती है। अगर आप tube तोड़ें और अंदर गीली मिट्टी या छोटे सफेद/cream रंग के कीड़े दिखें तो infestation confirm है। ये tubes दीमक को sunlight और dry air से बचाती हैं। कभी-कभी ये walls के अंदर भी छिपी रहती हैं, इसलिए regular visual check जरूरी है।
2. पंखों के ढेर (Discarded Wings)
Windowsills, door frames, lights के नीचे या floors पर छोटे-छोटे समान size के wings के ढेर मिलना बहुत common early sign है। Swarming season में adult termites (swarmers) colony छोड़कर नई colony शुरू करने निकलते हैं। Mating के बाद वे अपने wings छोड़ देते हैं। ये wings flying ants से अलग होते हैं क्योंकि termite wings equal size के होते हैं और antenna straight होती है। Indoor wings का मतलब colony घर के अंदर या बहुत पास में active है। Monsoon से पहले या humidity बढ़ने पर ये sign ज्यादा दिखता है।
3. उड़ते हुए दीमक (Swarmers)
गर्म और humid मौसम में, खासकर शाम के समय lights के आसपास छोटे पंख वाले कीड़े उड़ते दिखें तो ध्यान दें। ये termite swarmers होते हैं। Outdoor swarming हमेशा dangerous नहीं होता, लेकिन अगर ये घर के अंदर बड़ी संख्या में दिखें तो infestation का strong indication है। Swarmers खुद wood नहीं खाते, लेकिन उनकी मौजूदगी बताती है कि mature colony पास में है। इन्हें ants समझकर ignore न करें।
4. खोखली आवाज वाली लकड़ी (Hollow or Papery Sound)
Door frames, wardrobes, bed frames, TV units, kitchen cabinets या wooden flooring को हल्के से थपथपाने पर अगर hollow, empty या papery sound आए तो अंदर से wood खाई जा चुकी है। दीमक लकड़ी को अंदर से खाती है और बाहर सिर्फ पतली layer छोड़ देती है। इसलिए furniture बाहर से normal दिख सकता है। खासकर wall से सटे furniture, skirting boards और window frames चेक करें। ये sign structural damage शुरू होने का संकेत देता है।
5. Wood Powder या Frass (Termite Droppings)
Furniture के नीचे, drawers के अंदर, baseboards के पास या shelves पर fine powder, sawdust जैसा residual या छोटे-छोटे pellets (frass) दिखें। Drywood termites लकड़ी खाने के बाद अपना waste बाहर निकालते हैं। ये powder बार-बार साफ करने के बाद भी आना active infestation का clear sign है। रंग आमतौर पर wood जैसा या हल्का भूरा होता है। Wardrobe corners, bed legs और pooja units में ये अक्सर नजर आता है।
6. Doors-Windows अटकना और Floor Problems
अचानक doors या windows tight हो जाएं, आसानी से न खुलें-बंद हों, या frames uneven लगें। Termites wood के अंदर नमी और mud छोड़ते हैं जिससे timber swell हो जाता है। इसी तरह floor buckling, sagging या soft spots भी structural damage का संकेत हो सकते हैं। ये changes धीरे-धीरे होते हैं, इसलिए compare करके देखें कि पहले आसानी से चलने वाले दरवाजे अब क्यों अटक रहे हैं।
7. Soft Spots, Blisters, Paint उखड़ना या Clicking Sound
लकड़ी दबाने पर soft या crumbly लगे, surface पर blisters दिखें, paint या plaster उखड़ने लगे, या walls/furniture से छोटे holes नजर आएं। रात के quiet time में अगर walls या wood से faint clicking, ticking या scratching sound सुनाई दे तो दीमक अंदर से खा रही हो सकती है। ये advanced signs हैं और delay न करें।
क्या करें अगर ये Signs दिखें?
एक भी sign नजर आए तो professional pest control inspection करवाएं। DIY sprays सिर्फ surface पर काम करते हैं और colony जड़ से नहीं मारते। Pre-monsoon (April-June) में regular check सबसे अच्छा रहता है क्योंकि humidity बढ़ने से activity तेज हो जाती है। Early detection से furniture, structure और पैसा तीनों बच जाते हैं। घर को dry और well-ventilated रखना भी prevention में मदद करता है।
